Bethany Bones was a woman whose skeletal remains was found in rural northeastern Pennsylvania in 1977.

Case

The victim's largely intact skeletal remains were found by hunters in thick brushes off a road near Bethany, Pennsylvania. Two plastic bags were found near the remains.

Investigators interviewed a woman who lived less than a mile from the discovery site. She told them earlier that year she saw a red pickup truck with New York tags parked near the site. Other residents near the crime scene also stated that a few months before the discovery they smelled a strong stench in the area, but brushed it off as a dead animal.

Police initially suspected that the remains belonged to Jimmy Hoffa due to the gold fillings in the victim's teeth, however, dental records disproved the theory. An Oklahoma forensic anthropologist later determined that the remains belonged to a woman.

Characteristics

  • She had many gold fillings in her teeth.
  • She might be bedridden before her death.
