Dan was the possible first name of a man committed to the Stockton State Hospital in 1864. He died in 1881.

Case

"Dan" was allegedly born in Virginia and had previously lived in Texas, and had been living in California for eleven years before he was committed to the Stockton State Hospital on June 11, 1864. He had exhibited signs of mental illness for several years before he was committed, and it was stated that his symptoms were worsening and was "habitually disposed to injure others."

He died of pneumonia on April 7, 1881 and was buried in the hospital's cemetery. Like many of the other people buried there, his body may have eventually been cremated.
