Door County Doe was the older child of a French woman who, with her mother and younger sibling, was killed during the firestorm at Williamson Shingle Mill in Williamsonville (now called Tornado), Wisconsin on October 8, 1871. This fire took place with the Great Peshtigo Fire which burned a million and two hundred thousand acres of the Door Peninsula and the upper adjacent parts of the Upper Peninsula Michigan and killed a thousand five hundred to two thousand five hundred, making it the deadliest wildfire in human history. The family is buried together in Grave 15 in Tornado Memorial Park in Brussels, Wisconsin.
