Doreen Ann Marfeo (born July 7, 1955) was a young woman who disappeared from Johnston, Rhode Island in 1990.
Marfeo disappeared from her home in Johnston, Rhode Island on March 29, 1990. Her husband, Stephen, who suspected that she had been cheating on him, hired two private investigators to follow her. The last day Doreen was seen alive was on March 29. Stephen did not report her missing for two-and-a-half days. There was no sign of a struggle in the house and Doreen's car and personal belongings were still at the house.
Later that June, police received two typewritten letters, one being an account of Doreen's murder, which stated that Stephen strangled her to death and dumped her body in a pond in Providence. The second letter accused Doreen of having affairs at work, with a list of names of her coworkers. It is believed that Stephen had sent these letters, as the typewriter from the second note was found to have come from his mother's house, to which he denied writing the letters. Police suspect that Stephen had killed Doreen, yet were not able to prove it.
In July 1999, Stephen shot and killed his estranged girlfriend, then drove to Connecticut where he killed himself.
