Mary Georgine Lang was a woman who disappeared from Hays, Kansas in 1983. Though her case remains unsolved, foul play is suspected, and she was declared legally dead 7 years after her disappearance.
At the time of her disappearance, Lang just began working as a secretary for a local attorney. She was last seen at around 1:00 pm in downtown Hays, Kansas, taking legal papers to other attorneys in town to be signed. At around 5:00 pm, her car was found in the 200 block of East 12th Street, with the drivers door left ajar, and her purse and legal papers placed on the front seat. 5 days later, her coat and car keys were found inside a box under a bridge on a road located near the northwest area of Hays. Lang, however, was nowhere to be found.
Steven Carl Holden is considered a person in interest in Lang's disappearance, as he was in downtown Hays accosting various women the day Lang had disappeared. However, he has never been charged in her case. He is currently in prison for an aggravated kidnapping in 1985, and he had previously been accused and acquitted of murder in 1977.
