Mr. X is a man whose burned body was found near Highway 20 in Greenville, County South Carolina by a hunter who saw something wrapped in plastic.
He had been beaten and tied up before he was doused with gasoline and set ablaze. It is not clear if he had died before or after being set on fire.
It was reported an arrest was made in the case, but the suspect was released due to the lack of evidence against them.
In 2020, the Greenville County Coroner's Office exhumed the victim in order to extract DNA evidence.
