The deceased was hitchhiking along US 19-21 near Fair Deal Market before being struck by an out-of-control vehicle. A motorist who previously gave the decedent a ride recalled that he was trying to travel to Bluefield, West Virginia to receive a birth certificate so he could join the military. He had claimed he originated from Chicago, Illinois, and that both of his parents were deceased, though he never provided the driver with his name.
