Shoshone County John Does were nine men who were killed in the Great Fire of 1910.

Great Fire of 1910[]

During the weekend of August 20-21, 1910, a collection of small fires combined with strong winds turned into a firestorm that spread to the three states of Idaho, Montana, Washington. Three million acres and several entire towns were burned and 92 people were killed in the fire, 78 of them were firefighters fighting the fire. The exact cause of the fire and the cost in damages are unknown.

Of the 92 firefighters and civilians killed, 57 were buried at Woodlawn Cemetery at St. Maries, Idaho. Of the 57, eight of the men could not be identified because their bodies were burned beyond recognition. Of the eight men, two were killed in the Big Creek fire, three killed in the Setzer Creek fire, and three killed in the Trout Creek fire. Additionally, the unknown ninth man was buried at Nine Mile, Idaho.

It is possible that one of three killed in the Setzer Creek fire was a man named Harley Siphers, who was confirmed to have died at Setzer Creek, but his grave has not been located.

The two unknown men killed in the Big Creek fire were found in the summer of 1911. They were found alongside a third body that was positively identified as Delbert E. Rich, an 18-year-old from Indiana. They were believed to be homesteaders living together.
