After the successful identification of Marcia Bateman by the DNA Doe Project, police announced the intention to utilize forensic genealogy in hopes to resolve the case.
After testing and research were conducted, it was announced that the child was Caucasian, specifically of English and Danish descent. He also appeared to have relatives in the same state he was discovered, in addition to Utah, Ohio, and Indiana. Later research also suggested a potential link to the Southern region of the country.
