General rules

  • All contributors are recommended to be at least fifteen years of age due to the sensitive matter of many cases listed on the website.
  • Civility is required for all users. Edits that are considered to be disrespectful, racist, homophobic, transphobic or otherwise disruptive will not be tolerated and will likely result in being blocked.
  • Ensure that you contribute using an encyclopedic and neutral tone when adding information onto the site. Maintain an unbiased standpoint and avoid writing in first-person unless you are writing a blog post.

Image policy

Anyone is welcome to add images to the wiki, but should acknowledge some guidelines before uploading.

Licensing

To abide by copyright laws, be sure to include the copyright information for the images. Please copy and paste the appropriate license (included below) into the description portion of the upload form.

  • {{CopyUnk}} if you do not know if the image is copyrighted.
  • {{PD}} if the image is under the public domain (copyright free). Images created by police departments in California and Florida are under this license.
  • {{Fairuse}} if the image is copyrighted (such as the work by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children)
  • {{Permission}} if the image is copyrighted but is permitted for use by the author.
    • Artists such as Natalie Murry have graciously granted permission for their files to be used but require credit for their images.


Be sure not to upload images that are prohibited to be used without permission.

Postmortem images

  • Postmortem photographs should not be posted directly to a page.
  • Images that are graphic (depicting open eyes, bloodied or pained expressions should not be uploaded without censorship or retouching.
  • Images of significantly decomposed bodies (excluding skeletons) are strictly prohibited.
